With the 40% recent increase in the electricity rate and the cost of Solar systems coming down, it may be time for you to consider converting your lighting to the AAES LED Lighting System.

Why the AAES 12 VOLT LED Lighting System?

It will save you money now and in the future – The AAES Decorative Lights use about half the power of a comparable energy efficient bulb and will last for up to 50,000 hours (about 40 years) versus 6,000 for EE bulbs.

The lamps add a beautiful decorative flair to any room compared to naked bulbs hanging from your ceiling.

Low Cost – Because the AAES lights use so little power, smaller solar panels and batteries can be used and the cost of using solar is greatly reduced.

Scalable to meet any need – All systems are made to provide 5 hours for internal lights and 12 hours for security lights. Kits come with 3 to 15 internal or security lights and multiple kits can be linked together to handle bigger needs.

All systems come with phone charging ability and can be upgraded by adding an inverter to provide power for small 220 appliances such as TVs, laptops, etc.

Plug and Play – All kits are easy to install either by the user, an electrician or the AAES trained staff.

All AAES LED Lighting Kits come with choice of lamps (each with 10 metre of wire), Safety All Weather Case, Phone charging capability and solar panels.

12 Volt LED 24″ Televisions available as an option.

Optionally the Lighting systems can be charged by solar, the grid, vehicle or even a motorcycle.

The AAES Lighting System is all Ugandan! Designed by Ugandans, developed by Ugandans and manufactured here in Uganda by Ugandans by a Ugandan company.

Where AAES 12 Volt LED lighting systems can be used

-In the home either for primary lighting or backup
-Schools to provide light for classrooms and dormitories
-Stores so that the customers can see what they are buying
-Security lighting for homes, parking lots and businesses.
-Hotels for lighting their rooms
-Safari camps to provide their guests with lights, phone and laptop charging.

African Alternative Energy Solutions is in the business of providing alternative energy solutions, not just systems. We work very hard to provide the best quality solution for the price. The increased load shedding here in Uganda has driven both companies and people to come to us for solutions to the problem of lack of electricity. In addition, A tariff increase of about 40% has just been announced, on rates that reportedly are the second highest in the world already. Efficient use of electricity is becoming more imperative.

When someone calls, the first thing we ask them is what do they want to power, what is the wattage required for each appliance and for how long do they want power. Normally, whenever possible, we send out a technician to evaluate the site and, to the best of our ability to measure what is going to be needed now and in the future. What we often find is there are huge energy losses due to old appliances, poor wiring, etc.

We offer several different solutions. The Auto PowerStation is charged off the vehicle as it is being driven. This is free electricity. If you drive a car as little as an hour a day, you have power for a medium TV and 3 to 4 energy saving lights for up to 4 hours. This is the lowest total cost alternative energy solution for those who own and drive a car. It also has the added advantage that it provides electricity anywhere the vehicle travels.

The Grid (inverter) PowerStation is the next lowest total cost alternative solution. We can configure it to meet just about any electricity need for the home, office or business. However, the system is charged off Umeme and thus you are still paying for the electricity that is used.

The Solar PowerStation provides free electricity and can be configured to provide power for any size requirement. However, the initial cost is the highest of the 3 alternatives. However, with time the benefits override the costs. Its biggest positive is that there is always electricity so long as the sun is shining.

As an aside, I really hate inefficiency. We want to provide the system needed to meet the need of the user, and not more or less. I know it is unusual for a company to make suggestions that will lessen the size of the sale, but here we go. These ideas come from hundreds of analyses we have done. The reason these suggestions are important is by reducing your energy consumption, not only is your electricity bill lessened, but also the size of the alternative energy system you need for backup power is reduced, and thus the cost of the system is also reduced.

Whether you want power for a home or a business, or whether you want a system for backup or as the primary source, or whether it is needed in a new construction or in an existing building, or whether you are looking at a solar or inverter or Auto PowerStation, these suggestions may save you a great deal of money in purchasing a system while enhancing the quality of your life and lowering your electricity bill.

The first place to look is at your lighting as that is usually the primary requirement. If you are still using incandescent bulbs (the old round ones) or fluorescent lights, replace them immediately with either energy savers, or better still, replace the lights with the new LED lights that use about 1/4 of the power as energy savers for the same amount of light. Also look at the size of the bulbs you are using, Do you really need 15 watt energy savers or will 8 or 10 watt do the job?

The next place to look is at your TV. If you have an old tube type TV consider replacing it with an LCD TV. Most of the new LCD TVs use a fraction of the power of the old tube type. Do you really need a large screen TV or will a 21″ or less LCD TV be sufficient?

The third area to look at is your fridge. Old models are very inefficient compared to the newer ones. A cheap old Fridge is no bargain. If you are buying an inverter or solar system for backup during load shedding and the load shedding is normally 4 hours or less, don’t put the fridge on the backup system. Normally a fridge will keep things cold for up to 24 hours if you keep the door closed. You may also want to consider buying a small bar fridge to store those things that are required for daily living that spoil quickly, such as milk during load shedding and put that on backup power. Don’t believe the label as far as the wattage is concerned. Fridges have a compressor that when it starts up uses up to 10 times the wattage that is shown on the label. Thus if it says it is a 130 watt, it can take more than a 1000 watts for the compressor to start up.

The fourth area to look at is your computers. If you are using desktop computers, get rid of them, especially if they are on all day. I haven’t owned a desktop computer in 20 years. You can do just about anything on a laptop that you can do on a desktop. Desktops use anywhere from 3 to 8 times the electricity of a laptop. Laptops have the additional advantage of having battery backup built in that will usually provide a couple of hours of usage. The normal desktop will require 300 to 500 watts depending on the type of monitor etc, whereas the normal laptop uses 50 to 90 watts. If you are worried about theft, most laptops have a provision for a Kensington lock that allows you to cable the system to a desk, making it very difficult to steal. If you must have a desktop, look at the Inveneo systems that use only 38 watts sold by CLS Limited located in the UMA Show Grounds, Lugogo. If you are using a desktop computer more than 6 hours a day, the saving in buying the backup system whether inverter or solar plus the saving on your electricity bill, will more than pay for the new laptop computers in a very short time..

When buying new appliances look at the label on the product and choose the one with the lowest wattage. For example, most flat-irons use 1200 watts. However, there are small travel irons that use 800 watts or less that do a very good job, and they cost a lot less to purchase. Also look for the Energy Star label on appliances. These are usually the most energy efficient appliances you can buy and will save you money in the long run.

Lastly, make sure your wiring in your building has been done right. Very often we find the wiring has been done incorrectly, not only causing loss of electricity, but also a possible cause of fire and injury. Have the power tested coming into the home, often power coming from Umeme is not balanced and this can cause destruction of your appliances, including the inverter.

When you are ready to solve your load shedding problem or need power in the village where there is none, give us a call. We will be happy to look at your needs and provide the best system to satisfy them. As we like to say, “We are in the business of providing solutions not just systems”.

I hope this has been helpful.

We believe that the PowerStation project offers the opportunity not only to make money, but also help in the progressive development of the East Africa Community by implementing a new untapped source of electricity and provide quality jobs to the people of the region.

We are planning to establish the first assembly plant/dealer training center in Northern Uganda to service the needs for electricity in the emerging East Africa Common Market and surrounding countries. I hope you will join with me in this effort.

I came to Uganda 4 years ago from the US to do a volunteer stint in a computer literacy project after 40 years of being an entrepreneur on the “leading edge” in the computer field. I decided to stay after the project ended as I was basically retired and I believe Africa is the new frontier. I did some business consulting before coming up with the PowerStation concept.

The one thing I didn’t like was the inconsistency of electricity, even here in the capital, Kampala. It seemed every time I would get on the computer to do a project the power would go off. With a Dutch friend, after much trial and error, we came up with a unique solution we call the AAES PowerStation. Basically it uses a car’s electricity generating capability to generate and store electricity for later use in the home office or business. As we like to say, drive an hour a day and have power all night. We believe it is the lowest cost alternative energy solution for someone who owns and drives a car.

Over the last 4 years we have installed and tested the PowerStation in large and small cars with the same success. It works great. Not liking to put other people’s money at risk, I used my retirement saving to develop the PowerStation to this point. It now is time to take the technology to the next level.

In Uganda there are over 600,000 cars on its roads. 90% of the people have no access to grid power, even part of the day. In neighboring countries such as the South Sudan and DRC there is even less grid power and most electricity is generated using petrol generators with the attendant cost, noise and pollution.

The first year cost of a PowerStation is less than a comparable generator when the cost of fuel is added in, and about 1/5 the cost over a five year period.

The cost of a PowerStation is less than one quarter of that of a solar system for the comparable amount of electricity generated and has the additional benefit of providing electricity wherever the vehicle travels. Since the vehicle is being used for transportation anyway, the PowerStation is causing no additional pollution and the electricity is basically free.

We are continuing to work on lowering the cost to the consumer without lowering the quality of the product. The second iteration of the PowerStation is ready for market and the third is in development.

With over a billion vehicles on the roads of the world, this is an immediate solution to the scarcity of electricity around the planet, especially in developing countries. This is a technology that could help transform the lives of people around the developing world if we can get it to the wider market. At the same time, it will reduce the need for additional generating and transmission facilities without causing any additional pollution. In effect, we are getting double utilization out of fuel being used for transporting anyway.

We are looking to build the prototype assembly plant/dealer training center in Northern Uganda to service the markets initially of Uganda, The DRC and South Sudan, with expansion into the other East African Common Market countries to follow. This will provided needed electricity and jobs to an area whose infrastructure was decimated by war for 20 years.

We expect we will need approximately $300,000 to $500,000 to get it off the ground.

We are offering up to thirty-three 100 share blocks of stock at $15,000 per block (33% of the company’s stock) to raise the needed capital to get the project to the next level. After establishing the Center in Northern Uganda we hope to take what is learned and establish other Centers around the developing regions of the world.

The East Africa Common Market has been started and will open the market for PowerStations to another 100 million people in Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania. All of these countries have serious shortages of electricity and have shown strong interest in the AAES PowerStation Solution.

I believe this is an opportunity to not only make an excellent ROI in the long term, but also bring electricity to areas of the world that need it and provide good paying jobs to people that desperately need them, all with a product that causes no additional pollution. That is a win/win in my book and I hope it is in yours. We are also looking for additional grants and low cost loans to further the project.

If you would be interest in one or more blocks of stock or have other sources of funding we might tap, please contact me. If you know of anyone who also might also be interested in participating, please pass on the information to them. If you have any suggestions for other funding sources, please let me know.

This is definitely a technology that should not die on the vine. Please give serious consideration to investing. As I said before, I believe this is a win/win for all concerned.

Again thanks to Barclays Bank and GVEP for their support and belief in the project.

And thank you in advance for your serious consideration of the project.

Harry Nielsen
